Music Director
Michael D. Russo is excited to begin his third season as the Music Director of Delaware Symphonic Winds. He taught Music in the New Jersey communities of Saddle Brook, Kinnelon, Parsippany and Morristown during a 34 year teaching career.
He is a graduate of William Paterson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education and a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership. He has completed additional graduate study at the Julius Hartt School of Music, Central Connecticut State University and Villanova University.
Under Mr. Russo’s direction his ensembles received several Superior and Gold ratings and were selected to perform at New Jersey Music Educators Association State Gala Concerts, the Mid-Atlantic Honors Wind Band Festival and the New Jersey Music Educators Association State Conference.
Mr. Russo’s guest conducting appearances include the Future Musicians All-State Concert Band, the North Jersey Area Symphonic Band, the North Jersey Area Percussion Ensemble, the New Jersey Region I HS Symphonic Band, the New Jersey Region I HS Jazz Ensemble, the New Jersey Region I JHS Jazz Ensemble, the New Jersey Region II HS Jazz Ensemble and the "Banding Together" event with the Quakertown Band and the South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble.
He is a member of the International Trumpet Guild, has been awarded the Sudler Silver Scroll by the John Philip Sousa Foundation and was selected as the recipient of the New Jersey Outstanding Jazz Educator Award.
As a performer, Mr. Russo has been a member of the trumpet sections of the New Jersey Wind Symphony and Delaware Symphonic Winds and is a founding member of the Imperial Brass Quintet. He has performed throughout the United States as well as in China, the Philippines, the Dominican Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, France and Switzerland.
